A New Bushing

Today, I had to come to work early as a repairman was coming to fix our side door. By early I mean 7:30 am. I think there is (should be) a law against having to get up that early. It doesn’t help any when I didn’t fall asleep until 5 am!!

But, back to the door bushing. This bushing has needed replacing for quite awhile but we just haven’t got around to it. It isn’t very big but because it has become worn, it allows the top of the door to sag. That in turns means the top of the door rubs against the other door and won’t close on its own. When we leave we have to make sure we pull the door shut so it will latch.

We have actually waited for the new part for about six weeks now but the bushing is no longer made so now the door has to be removed and a different type of hinge placed on it so it will be functionable.

Besetting Sin

Hebrews 12:1 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race marked out before us. (NIV) The New King James Version says “… let us lay aside every weight, and the sin that so easily ensnares us … ” or as the KJV says “… the sin that doth so easily beset us”

Sin is like the bushing. It seems like just a little thing and we plan to deal with it but we get lax and allow it to continue. Yet, as we just read, that sin, even at the beginning stages, entangles, besets and ensnares us! As we allow that sin to continue, it causes more and more damage to our lives.

Imagine running with a load on your back. Something weighing you down. It may not feel that heavy when you start but as you continue, the load gets heavier and heavier. Your endurance decreases and eventually you want to quit! This is what sin does to us. It ensnares and begets and weighs us down.

A new bushing – unbegetting!

If you feel weighed down … your life is sagging and rubbing up against the opposite door … you are getting worn down; God has an answer.

That answer is Jesus Christ. All of us have begetting sin. All of us are unable to match up to the righteousness of God. All of us are entangled. God knows this and want to have fellowship with us but because of our sin, can’t. God is holy and sin cannot reside near Him. So He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross. And … while on the cross, Jesus took the sin of the whole world … including yours and mine.

How do you get the bushing replaced? How do you unbeget? You realize you are a sinner, that you have sin in your life and you repent. That means you turn around 180 degrees. And you believe, from your heart, that Jesus is God’s Son and you ask Him to be the Lord of your life.

A New Creation

2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things have passed away: behold, all things have become new.” By asking Jesus to be the Lord of your life, you don’t just get a new bushing, you become a brand new creation. You actually become either a son or a daughter of the Most High God! Wow!

Have you been allowing a worn bushing to destroy your life. Maybe today is the day for you to dal with it and to turn your life over to Jesus.
